  Canada 2009
After our honeymoon, Abby and I sorted through our many scenic photos. Abby has combined our best pictures with her notes about the trip. My comments below are more general reflections rather than a travel journal.

For the trip details and pictures, click on the link below. I would suggest going there first and then coming back and reading my reflection. The end of Abby's web site will refer you back to here.

Dan's Reflection

Honestly, I always pictured my honeymoon would be somewhere tropical. Perhaps a secluded bungalow overlooking crystal clear waters lapping the shores of a white sandy beach and the only thing to be seen for miles around is a hammock tied between two palm trees.

Basically a Corona commercial.

That fantasy began to fade a few months before I even asked Abby to marry me. During our visit to Diamond Lake last summer, Abby’s parents began to plant the seed of the Canadian Rockies. I think they saw the potential of an upcoming wedding in the near future.

They mentioned that they had just revisited their honeymoon location of Lake Louise. Steve described that area of the world the prettiest that he has ever seen. Coming from a man that had to send in his passport to get more pages to stamp, his recommendation of the Rockies is one that could not be ignored. A few months later, after I had given Abby a ring, Steve took me to lunch to help plan the trip.

Although I did not get the tropical honeymoon, I am glad I was convinced to go to the Canadian Rockies. The scenery and wildlife was spectacular and I got to go to the Calgary Stampede. That is something else I have fantasized about for a long time. As spectacular as the scenery of our trip was, I can honestly say that for me it runs a close second to Prince Christian Sound in Greenland. Amazingly, someplace that Steve has not traveled to that I have.

My parents are now talking about going to the Canadian Rockies next summer for their 50th anniversary. I think that is a great idea!

I still haven’t given up on the tropical fantasy. Perhaps that can be one our anniversary trips.
